The World Health Organization has officially declared a swine-flu pandemic. While somewhat anti-climactic from a news perspective, the action does promise to spur accelerated development of a vaccine against the H1N1 variant influenza strain that has, to date, caused some 27,000 cases worldwide, the majority of them in Mexico and the U.S.
