The advocacy organization MomsRising is encouraging people to petition the IRS to recognize breastfeeding as a medical expense. The IRS, as discussed here previously, has said that breastfeeding doesn't have enough health benefits to qualify as a form of medical care, and that related supplies aren't eligible for reimbursement through flexible health spending accounts. But many people, including dozens of members of Congress (and this writer!), disagree and want the IRS to reverse its decision.
MomsRising's online petition was posted yesterday.
