New year, new (less stressed) you

One goal on my list of New Year's resolutions is to reduce my stress level. The motivation to be less stressed in 2011 was largely driven by the research of Stanford neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky, PhD, showing how chronic stress can be harmful to your health.

With that in mind, I took particular interest in the this BBC Brainsmart animation offering easy tips on stress management. The light-hearted animation reminded me of a mantra my doctor often repeats: "The simple things you do yourself can often yield the greatest health benefits."

Before embarking on your commute home today, take a few minutes to watch the video and remember: Breath deep. Exercise, going outside and talking to others can help.
