Disconnecting before bedtime

Jay Parkinson, MD, MPH, has a smart new rule for his mobile phone:

Instead of waking up and immediately checking my email and getting stressed out about work, I put my iPhone in Airplane mode from bedtime until 9 am. I wake up at 7:45 am, make coffee, and settle down to reading two long form articles on paper about things I don't know much about.

I've been doing a similar thing in the evenings and have been happy with the results so far. Parkinson will be a speaker at the upcoming Stanford Summit @ Medicine 2.0.
