Celebrating life before a surgery

I'm a bit late to the party on this, but I would be remiss to not share this moving and popular video (1.6 million views and counting) of a patient/doctor doing a most surprising thing before undergoing a double mastectomy: dancing. In the video above, a University of California-San Francisco doctor shakes around in her "little hospital gown and bouffant cap," just as she promised readers of her Caring Bridge journal that she would do before her surgery. I choked up at the sight of her dancing to Beyoncé's "Get Me Bodied" - looking as if she hadn't a care in the world - but it's the last 25 seconds with her colleagues that really got to me.

As perfectly described by NBC Bay Area's Lisa Fernandez, the video isn't gory or sad but instead uplifting - "the kind of video to bring a smile to your lips and tears to your eyes, all at the same time."
