Nature Publishing Group unveils online, open-access journal

Listen up researchers: There's a new online, open-access journal on the block. Yesterday, Nature Publishing Group announced the launch of Scientific Reports, a peer-reviewed publication covering all areas of the natural sciences:

Scientific Reports is currently accepting submissions and aims to publish its first papers in June. According to a press release:

Authors will have a choice of two non-commercial Creative Commons (CC) licenses. [Nature Publishing Group] will make an annual donation to Creative Commons equivalent to $20 per [article-processing charge] paid for publication in Scientific Reports....

...To enable the community to evaluate the importance of papers post-peer review, the Scientific Reports website will include most-downloaded, most-emailed, and most-blogged lists. All research papers will benefit from rapid peer review and publication, and will be deposited in PubMed Central.

Stanford biochemist Suzanne Pfeffer, PhD, is a member of the journal's editorial advisory panel. The Scientific Reports editorial board includes Stanford scientists Maxence Nachury, PhD, Aaron Straight, PhD, and Or Gozani, MD, PhD.
